FileZilla is known as a safe and common app, so I’m passing this on to my threat labs. If the bundled installer includes safe offers for legitimate products (i.e., it’s not adware or malware that will infect your PC) then it could count as a false positive. You can also submit files directly to the Avast threat labs here. 1. Jan 31,  · Thanks Peter! I was shocked to see this from a FileZilla install, and even more shocked that it was in order to sneak Avast onto a computer. Both are programs I’ve used and trusted for years, and this was certainly not something I would have expected. . Download FileZilla Client for Windows (64bit x86).

Downloaded Filezilla today, and I know to watch for “bundled offers”. THIS, however, is just plain wrong:. If you look, ever so closely, you might be able to read the white text on this faintly colored background, which says “I agree to install Avast Antivirus and consent to its End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy.

This is one screen after a different Bundled offer for “Bing Powered Chromium Browser” which wasn’t trying to hide itself:. I’ve used FileZilla on and off for years, but this kind of stuff is plain wrong. According to the version history, FileZilla 3. It’s a horrible practice but sometimes there are bills to pay and there needs to be some form of income. That’s why I usually go to Ninite to get stuff like that if it’s available there.

There’s no bundling at all. Brand Representative for Avast Business. I know how many people feel about bundling software and I will make sure to pass on this feedback.

I can confirm that there are some situations where we are bundling Avast software, such as in select installations of CCleaner Free Piriform is part of Avast but the bundling is very obvious , and easy to opt out of. Here’s an example, where the text is colored and bolded, and the offer itself is highlighted in a different color.

We’re not trying to obscure it or be sneaky in any way. I’ve already escalated this to the top, my friend : I don’t believe that anything malicious was intended here but that it does need to be investigated. We appreciate your trust over the years and I’m certain the FileZilla devs do too! Yeah, with it being Avast! I get why bundling happens and you can opt out, but to have something so you cant read the contents is just wrong. Although my guess is this is an error on one or both sides and not something that was supposed to happen. Definitely was not an offline machine same machine I’m posting this reply from.

I just downloaded the installer again. No Avast offer at all. So I cancelled that, and ran the installer I downloaded yesterday. I take it that means the Bundled offer screens are downloaded during the install process?

And apparently, that the offers rotate out from time to time. Thanks for looking into this. Hopefully, I just managed to catch a short-lived glitch Glad it seems to have gone away.

Thanks for the info. For example, if you already had Avast present on the machine, you shouldn’t see an offer, but that might be built into FileZilla’s installer. My feeling is exactly yours, that it was a short-lived glitch — but in any case my team is on it! To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.
